Neanderthal growth gene boosts muscle mass in modern humans: Study
A study published in 'Current Biology' suggested that a Neanderthal-inherited growth hormone receptor variant makes cells respond more strongly to growth hormone, boosting growth by 40% in laboratory tests. Adults carrying the Neanderthal version had around 270 grams more muscle mass on average. Up to 24% of people in some South Asian populations carry this receptor.
