What causes sudden cardiac arrest in people in their 40s?

Almost 80% of all sudden cardiac arrests in people over 40 stem from coronary artery disease (narrowing of coronary arteries due to plaque buildup), said cardiologist Dr Rajan Shetty. Even minor blockages (<70%) may cause heart attack as plaque covering may tear during strenuous activity. Blood clot may form over tears, resulting in blockage and heart attack, Dr Shetty said.
