Chinese military have used US-built AI models to train its domestic defence systems, reported Reuters. Researchers linked to China's PLA reportedly use "model distillation," in which outputs from a powerful AI system are used to train smaller models that can be deployed locally without requiring large computing requirements. Anthropic doesn't provide commercial access to Claude in China.
