German court holds Meta liable for fake Facebook ads

A German court ruled Meta responsible for fake third-party ads on Facebook and Instagram, ordering removal of such content and payment of damages. A financial portal reported nearly 260 violations in August 2024 while Meta took up to 62 days to act. The court rejected Meta's Digital Services Act defence, citing its algorithmic content control and Meta is contesting the ruling.
