Parasitic infection may trigger cancer in cervix: Study

A new research has revealed that Schistosoma haematobium, a parasitic infection, can trigger cancer-related gene activity in cervical lining, with changes being more noticeable after treatment. The study found that certain cancer-related biological pathways became more active post treatment, particularly those involved in inflammation and the breakdown of protective barriers in the cervix.
