Bangladesh's politics have been defined by Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina's rivalry, called "Battle of the Begums". The feud began after Hasina’s father was assassinated in 1975 and Zia’s husband took over as President, NDTV reported. In 2004, Hasina blamed Zia's government for attacks that killed her party members. Zia was jailed in Hasina's regime and released after Hasina's ouster.
