Suicide abetment charges mustn't be invoked to comfort family: SC
short by Bhuvnesh Ojha / on Saturday, 18 January, 2025
The Supreme Court said investigating agencies shouldn't apply suicide abetment charges mechanically to "comfort" the family of the deceased. It stated that the interactions between the deceased and the accused should be approached from a practical point of view and hyperbolic exchanges should not be exaggerated as incitement to suicide. It also asked the trial courts to exercise great caution.
