Massive Greenland iceberg hits Joe Island, survives without breaking apart

A 76-square-kilometre iceberg that broke from Greenland's Petermann Glacier hit Joe Island, but survived without breaking apart, NASA said. The ice island calved on August 4 and struck the small rocky outcrop at the mouth of Petermann Fjord later that month.Scientists said that it later pivoted away into Nares Strait, where winds, currents, tides and melting will break it apart.
