Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026, by voice vote. It proposes to remove transgender people's right to a self-perceived gender identity and limit definition of transgender person to people with biological or physiological markers. Union Minister Virendra Kumar said it will ensure that transgender persons continue to get legal recognition.
