Russia has reportedly lost its 40th high-ranking officer since its invasion of Ukraine began on February 24. Lieutenant Colonel Denis Mezhuev is said to have died in battle according to reports from Russia and Ukraine. Mezhuev was the commander of the 1st Guards Motor Rifle Sevastopol Red Banner regiment. Total Russian casualties are believed to be about 20,000.
