Opposition parties in Assam demanded restoration of Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for government employees, causing uproar in Assembly. Independent MLA Akhil Gogoi moved the resolution, backed by Congress, AIUDF and CPI(M). Congress' Jakir Hussain Sikdar said, "It is the responsibility of the government to look after them (employees) post-retirement." Gogoi was later suspended from the Assembly.
