US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, whose entry is banned due to Chinese sanctions, arrived in Beijing after China changed transliteration of his name to facilitate entry. A different Chinese character for "lu" is being used to represent the first syllable in his surname. Rubio was sanctioned twice in 2020 over criticising human rights violations in Xinjiang and Hong Kong.
