What happens to Post Office MIS after the account holder dies?

The Post Office Monthly Income Scheme (MIS) is a small savings scheme with a five-year tenure. If a single MIS account holder dies, the registered nominee can claim the deposit, according to Livemint. In the absence of a nomination, the legal heirs can claim the money, it added.
