Maha family celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi with wheat-mud idol since 31 yrs

For 31 years, the Maratha family of Kalyan has celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi with an idol made of mud and wheat seeds instead of plaster or paint. They water it twice daily, watching green shoots grow around Ganesha. The tradition began after they saw thousands of idols abandoned after visarjan, and said, "It feels like therapy...to create your...own version of Ganesha."
