The Himalayan mountains contribute ₹64.8 lakh crore to India's economy annually, or 21.5% of the country's GDP, as per a new report. If the Himalayas fail amid climate change, rivers could start getting smaller due to glacier loss and start affecting crop production and hydropower. Extreme rainfall and floods can damage infrastructure, and frequent disasters can further hit the economy.
