The West Bengal government has introduced new rules for issuing birth and death certificates to curb fraudulent documentation. Names must now follow the first, middle and last name format. The use of initials or abbreviations will no longer be allowed. Birth and death registrations delayed by over 30 days will require official permission, a self-declaration and supporting documents.
