Myanmar's military chief Min Aung Hlaing, who led the 2021 coup, stepped down on Monday to stand in a parliamentary vote. He was one of two candidates named for Vice-President in the parliament and will later be considered for the role of President. He led the armed forces since 2011 and unseated Aung San Suu Kyi's government in 2021.
