Hospitalised patients fare better under female doctors, new study suggests
Patients hospitalised for common medical conditions were less likely to die within 30 days when treated by female physicians, a University of Toronto and ICES study found. Analysing over 9,50,000 patients, researchers recorded 30-day mortality of 12.3% under female physicians against 13.7% under male physicians. Readmission rates were also lower among patients treated by female physicians.
