Peon fired for stealing tea and biscuits, court sets aside Jharkhand govt's 'shocking' move
short by Ashley Paul / on Tuesday, 30 June, 2026
Jharkhand High Court ordered Bokaro's District Rural Development Agency to reinstate peon Ranjeet Kumar Himanshu, four years after he was fired for stealing tea powder and biscuits. Saying that the punishment "shocks the conscience", the court ordered that Himanshu be paid 50% back wages. It noted that the agency's notice, which triggered Himanshu's dismissal, failed to identify what he'd stolen.
