The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026 was passed in Lok Sabha on Friday. It mandates that births or deaths reported over two years after occurrence be registered only on an order from a judicial magistrate of the first class. Delays of one to two years will require approval from a district magistrate, sub-divisional magistrate or executive magistrate.
