Gold prices jumped by ₹1,650 to hit a fresh all-time high of ₹98,100 per 10 grams in Delhi on Wednesday, according to the All India Sarafa Association. During a hearing challenging the Waqf Act's validity, Supreme Court commented that denotifying 'Waqf by user' could create problems. "You cannot say there is no genuine Waqf by the user," SC told Centre's counsel Solicitor General Tushar Mehta. The earlier Waqf Act recognised Waqf by user, meaning that properties would remain as Waqf properties even if the user doesn't exist.

Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna has written to the Union Law Ministry, recommending Justice BR Gavai as his successor. Upon approval by the government, Justice Gavai will take oath as the next CJI on May 14. Elevated as a Judge of the Supreme Court on May 24, 2019, Justice Gavai is due to retire on November 23, 2025.

A colossal squid has been filmed in its natural habitat for the first time, a century after the species was discovered. Researchers at the Schmidt Ocean Institute captured the video of the live colossal squid. It was filmed 2,254 feet below sea level near Antarctica using a remotely operated underwater vehicle. This animal is the world's heaviest invertebrate.

The Supreme Court will hear multiple petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 on Wednesday. The Act was passed by the Parliament on April 4 and received President Droupadi Murmu's assent on April 5, while Centre notified its operation from April 8. At least six BJP-ruled states have filed intervention pleas in SC, supporting the Act.
