18% MMR vehicles fail checks; RTOs fine 5,821, recover ₹1.92cr

Eleven RTOs across Mumbai Metropolitan Region inspected 31,899 vehicles between October 1–15, finding 5,821 violations — an 18.25% rate. Fines worth ₹6.20 crore were imposed, but only ₹1.92 crore (31%) recovered. Panvel recorded the highest violations (1,170). The drive follows Bombay High Court directions on curbing vehicular air pollution.
