NITI Aayog vice chairman Ashok Lahiri said instant digital payment system UPI can't remain free forever. Consumers would pay a small fee for certain UPI transactions to ensure efficiency and reliability than insisting on a free service, Lahiri said. "We want things to be provided free, that's not sustainable...I believe fintechs should have a sustainable financial model," he added.
