'Kissing disease' linked to 3x higher risk of multiple sclerosis

A US study suggested that individuals who had infectious mononucleosis (mono), commonly known as "kissing disease", may be more than three times more likely to develop multiple sclerosis (MS) later in life. Study of 19,000 individuals found that 0.17% of those with mono developed MS, compared to 0.07% in those without infection. Mono is viral infection spread primarily through saliva.
