NASA's MAVEN (Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution) mission, which studied the Red Planet's upper atmosphere, has ended after over 11 years in orbit, far exceeding its planned one-year mission, the agency announced. The spacecraft was heard last on December 6, when it experienced an unexpected loss of signal. Launched in November 2013, it entered orbit around Mars in September 2014.
