The Centre sought the dismissal of petitions challenging the Waqf (Amendment) Act in its affidavit filed in the Supreme Court. It said it opposes a stay on Act's provisions. "There is a presumption of constitutionality that applies to laws made by Parliament and an interim stay by the court is against the principle of balance of powers," it said.

A gunfight broke out between security forces and terrorists in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, PTI reported quoting officials. Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in the Kulnar Bazipora area of Bandipora following information about presence of terrorists in the area, officials added. No casualties have been reported in the incident so far.

The Indian Army retaliated to firing on some Indian posts by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday night, according to multiple reports quoting sources. There were no casualties in the firing incidents, the reports added. This comes after a terrorist attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam.

Bharti Airtel has announced that its AI-powered spam detection tool will now screen and alert customers to all SPAM calls and SMSes from international networks. Notably, 'Airtel Warning: SPAM' has flagged over 27.5 billion spam calls since its launch. The new feature comes after scamsters and spammers resorted to exploiting foreign networks to funnel fraudulent calls into India, Airtel said.
