Gold jewellery found during an income-tax search cannot automatically be confiscated, as authorities consider its source and whether ownership can be reasonably explained. Government rules generally protect up to 500 grams for married women and 250 grams for unmarried women. For men, the limit is 100 grams per person, regardless of marital status, during tax searches.
