Hospital environments harbour antiseptic-tolerant bacteria: Study

A Northwestern University study found that hospital environments harbour bacteria resistant to antiseptics. It was found that a widely used antiseptic, chlorhexidine, lingers on surfaces long enough to help microbes build tolerance. Such antibiotic-tolerant bacteria spread in the hospital environment through touch and air. "Microbes and chemicals do not stay where we put them," said a scientist.
