China plans to build world's largest astronomy base by mid-2030s

China is planning to build the world's largest astronomy base at Saishiteng Mountain in Qinghai province by the mid-2030s. The site will host optical telescopes ranging from 6.5 metres to 14.5 metres in diametre. The collective light-gathering power of these telescopes is expected to surpass that of the ones at Mauna Kea in US' Hawaii.
