Andhra govt approves 34% backward class quota in rural local body polls

The Andhra Pradesh cabinet has approved a 34% backward class quota in rural local body polls and a 33.1% quota in urban body elections. The cabinet also decided that elections for the posts of chairmen of municipalities and mayors of corporations will be held directly, which will increase transparency in local bodies. Local body elections will be conducted in October.
