Apart from TVK's Vijay, many film stars have entered politics in Tamil Nadu. MG Ramachandran, founded AIADMK and served as CM from 1977 to 1987. Actress Jayalalitha joined AIADMK in 1982 and served as CM for about 14 years. M Karunanidhi, who was also a scriptwriter, was a towering leader of DMK. Vijayakanth, also called 'Captain' founded DMDK in 2005.
