Sweetener used in chewing gum, toothpaste linked to strokes, heart attacks and death: Study

Xylitol, a common sweetener used in chewing gum and toothpaste, has been linked to an increased risk of strokes, heart attacks and death, as per a study presented at European Society of Cardiology annual congress. "We also found that high blood levels of xylitol were linked to cardiovascular events in high-risk individuals over a 3-year period," a researcher said.
