Nearly 1 in every 3 people in Pakistan is poor, show official estimates

Poverty in Pakistan rose 6.9% in last six years, from 21.9% in 2018-19 to 28.8% in 2024-25, Geo News reported, citing official estimates. This means that nearly one in every three people in the country is poor, as poverty rates have jumped in Pakistan's Punjab and Sindh regions. Top officials attributed rising poverty to soaring inflation and low GDP growth.
