Assam CM Himanta Sarma, responding to criticism over his 'Miyan' remark, said Supreme Court itself said "demographic invasion of Assam may result in the loss of the geostrategically vital districts of lower Assam". "Our effort is not against any religion or any Indian citizen," he stated. Notably, Sarma had said he instructed BJP workers to keep filing complaints against 'Miyans'.
