Scientists in Japan revealed why cats land on their feet no matter how they are dropped. The middle of a cat's back is thrice more flexible than the lower back. This non-uniform flexibility allows them to rotate their head and front legs towards the ground first, while the stiff lower back acts as anchor and prevents spinning out of control.
