Over 1 lakh people aged 100 yrs & above in Japan, 88% are women

Japan has over 1 lakh people aged 100 or older (known as centenarians), the country’s Health Ministry said on Tuesday. Japanese women account for about 88% of the nation’s centenarians. There were around 153 centenarians when records began in 1963, rising to about 10,000 in 1998. Japan’s oldest person is a 114-year-old woman living in Kyoto, the report showed.
