India commissions world's first nuclear heat-based hydrogen facility

India has inaugurated the world's first hydrogen production facility powered by nuclear process heat, Department of Atomic Energy said. Located at Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research in Kalpakkam, it uses indigenously developed Copper-Chlorine thermochemical cycle and heat from Fast Breeder Test Reactor. The technology demonstrator aims to enable large-scale, carbon-free hydrogen production.
