Why not cap all medicines' MRPs at 16% above retailer price: SC asks govt

The Supreme Court on Tuesday questioned the Centre on why the MRP of all medicines cannot be capped at 16% above the retailer price, including essential, non-essential, patented and generic drugs. It was hearing petitions on drug pricing and mandatory generic prescriptions. The court also questioned hospitals making patients buy medicines from in-house pharmacies.
