Shaktikanta Das took charge as RBI's 25th Governor in 2018 after Urjit Patel abruptly resigned. During the COVID-19 pandemic, RBI under Das' leadership cut repo rate by 115 bps to a historic low of 4%. He also oversaw tightening of NBFC regulations and advocated for digital payments. The decision to withdraw ₹2,000 notes was also taken during his regime.
