In a U-turn, the Maharashtra government is set to legalise bike taxis from August 1, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik announced. The state government will charge a daily fee of ₹5 from bike taxi operators, while an additional 2% from every ride will go to a welfare fund for the benefit of drivers. The State Transport Authority will administer the fund.
