Egypt certified malaria-free by WHO after 100-year effort

Egypt has been officially certified malaria-free by the World Health Organization (WHO), marking the end of a century-long effort. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called it "truly historic," noting that malaria, once common in Egyptian civilisation, is now history. The certification is awarded after proving no transmission for three consecutive years.
