The HCs of Calcutta, Madras and Bombay were established pre-independence, so their ceremonies are linked to the British. Indian courts continued with British-era traditions to mark hierarchy, said lawyer Sanjay Ghose. Barring Calcutta HC, most courts discontinued this tradition.
