Google parent Alphabet has named Nobel laureate Demis Hassabis as its Chief Scientist, with the AI pioneer stepping down as Google DeepMind CEO to become Chairman. Hassabis co-founded DeepMind in 2010 and sold it to Google in 2014. He shared the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for AI-driven protein structure prediction research alongside John M Jumper.
