Several animals, including star tortoises and parakeets, are not allowed to be kept as pets in India, Sumanth Bindumadhav, Director of the Wildlife Protection at Humane Society International India, said. Red sand boa snakes, jackals, slender loris, bonnet macaques, barn owls and spotted owlets, are banned as pets. Spiny-tailed lizards and jungle cats also can't be kept as pets.
