Nepal has emerged as South Asia's costliest place to fill petrol, as the country hiked its price by 60% in just three weeks since January 2026. Petrol in Nepal now costs $1.48/litre, compared with Bhutan's $1.06/litre, Maldives' $1.04/litre, India's $1.02/litre and Afghanistan's $0.95/litre. Petrol in Nepal is even costlier than in debt-ridden Pakistan ($1.36/litre) and Bangladesh ($0.87/litre).
