The Supreme Court on Thursday, while hearing petitions challenging the law for appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), questioned the government why the Chief Justice of India (CJI) was not included on the selection panel. The bench said the CJI was on selection panels for CBI Director and Lokpal. The bench added that the Election Commissioner should be independent.
