New Zealand plans to ban greyhound racing over 'high injury rates'
short by Pravel Jain / on Tuesday, 10 December, 2024
The New Zealand government on Tuesday proposed to ban greyhound racing from 2026, citing "unacceptably high" injury rates. "While fewer dogs are dying, injury rates, while down slightly, have plateaued," the country's Minister for Racing Winston Peters said. An advisory committee has been formed to help find new homes for approximately 2,900 racing dogs, Peters added.
