Congress' Ghanshyam Singh won the Datia Assembly bypoll, defeating BJP's Ashutosh Tiwari by over 6,000 votes. The July 30 bypoll came after the BJP denied a ticket to former MLA Narottam Mishra. Ghanshyam secured 42% votes (66,726), while Tiwari got 38% (60,701). Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram)'s Damodar Yadav 'Mandal' finished third with 22,215 votes.
