Public sector banks collected ₹2,137.92 crore from current and savings account holders in FY26 as charges for non-maintenance of minimum average balance, the government informed Parliament. Private sector banks collected ₹4,948.71 crore. Among private lenders, HDFC Bank and Axis Bank accounted for 58% of total charges by collecting ₹1,798.14 crore and ₹1,081.33 crore, respectively.
