Pope Leo recently announced plans to undergo surgery in coming days to remove a lung nodule. A pulmonary nodule is a small area of abnormal tissue that appears as a spot on a chest X-ray or CT scan. These nodules measure up to three centimetres in diameter. Symptoms of the condition include coughing, breathlessness, chest discomfort and coughing up blood.
